i have recently opened an ira through wachovia it is set up where i put 400 a month and another 200 a month in stocks and bonds,for a total of 600 a month.i am 26 years old with an income of around 95k a year does this sound like the way to go or is there something more i could be doing?
the ira is trans america asset allocation gr c,iaalx,which the 400 a month goes into.
also tell me more about annuities.

I was laid off in October and am receiving 2 a week on my unemployment. My husband was laid off over 3 years ago from a union painting job and his unemployment ran out two years ago, so he brings in no money at all. We own our own home, mortgage payment about 5 plus the regular utility bills. No credit card or car debt (thank God). Using a gov’t calculator tool it seems we may qualify for food stamps but there’s just one question. I have a SEP retirement fund set up at the place I was laid off from…….no contributions from my company. I have invested about ,000 over the course of time, but with the bad economy, the account is worth less than ,000 now. Also there is the penalty for early withdrawal (I’m 57) which would be a double hit. The food stamp guidelines say that a person of my age can have no more than 00 in saving. Does that include my retirement plan?

Just curious as to a time frame, from the time an auctioneer comes to the home to inspect & list items, to the length of time to advertise for the auction, to the day it all sells.

I am settling my grandmothers estate and planning on using an auction service to sell her home & belongings. As I live quite a distance away, I’d like to know what sort of time frame is involved, since I cannot make it back & forth to her hometown often.

This is not a joke. My parents want to retire abroad but they don’t want an area full of conservative expats, as many of the Latin American communities tend to be. Anybody know of good retirement havens that have lots of liberals ("leftists" for you non-Americans)? How is Panama for this?

I read somewhere that you can withdraw yearly equal amounts from the Roth without tax. Is that true and is that what they do so you can retire early?
Ok, I must not have been too clear. I know exactly what a Roth Individual Retirement Arrangement IS, and how it works. What I’m wondering is if they have a provision for early retirement. I’m assuming they don’t since I can’t find information about it. I just with I could use this vehicle for investing for an early retirement.

My situation: I joined the company 401k plan in the mid-December 2006. Which I thought will start from beginning of 2007. However, my company started draw the money immediately and I didn’t notice until I got my W2 form recently. The 401k deduction is only 9 for year 2006. I have already put money on my IRA account which I can put 00 for 2006, I’m 50 years old. Based on the IRS rule, I could not contribute to IRA if I have 401k and have AGI more than 000 in 2006 which I did. Is there any way that I can change the 401k contribution to non-deductible, so I can contribute to my IRA?
