Well, I’m a first year college student who is thinking about his future! Currently, I only have 4.54 in my checking account and the money that I have beside that are in change or for spending money! I’m looking for options in how should I invest of what I have now! In addition, I don’t know anything when it comes to retirement plans beside their names, but I need advices on retirement, too! My wife and I are thinking about putting a percentage of our traditional IRA funds into bonds (to introduce a little more stability). I’m concerned though that the we’ll be taxed on bond investments now even though we have a traditional IRA account. Can someone please elaborate on the tax situation here? I’ve heard that municipal bonds may be better if bought from the same state we live in.

Ideally, I’d like to invest in bonds but would like the investment to remain tax-deferred (just like the other stuff in our traditional IRA).

My sister purchased the family farm five years ago. My Mother has a life estate. My sister and her husband lived in the house with my Mother. Due to problems, my Mother is having, she is planning on moving to an apartment in a near by town. My question is, since she has a life estate, and moves out of the house, is the life estate void? Or does she have the option that she can come back and continue the life estate?

I currently have Long-Term Care (LTC) Insurance through payroll deduction through my job. The insurance company selected is John Hancock. However, when looking at the coverage, they have a 90-day wait periord before benefits kick in. I was thinking of getting my own LTC insurance thorugh AFLAC instead as I understand they have a zero day wait period option. When talking to a person from AFLAC today, at first she said, they don’t sell individual insurance, but only through work. She asked me what company I worked for. I told her and she said that she thinks AFLAC does business with my company and she’d get back to me.

About 30 minutes later, she called me and said, yes, AFLAC does and she can set me up for insurance with them through payroll deduction. I said, my company selected John Hancock. She said, that’s still okay, I can still indirectly get insured by AFLAC through payroll deduction. Does that sound right? Has anyone at Yahoo Answers got AFLAC LTC this way? THX.

Can someone one tell me what the reduction in tax liability would be (all things being equal and assuming all normal deductions are in place) for a business that has mil in AGI and donated 0k to a 501(c)3 charity.

I understand that you can give up to 50% of your AGI, but in this case my liability without the donation would be 330k, so if I donated the same amount to a charity….how much would i still owe the gov’t?
