I’m going to be starting a Roth IRA with the maximum contribition. I’m 33. What sort of fund would best take advantage of the tax deferral? High growth? High dividends? I don’t see the advantage of deferring the taxes on say, a stock fund, since you are still going to pay the capital gains on the growth when you eventually withdraw, correct?
I believe the funds pay their dividends and capital gains in December, but since I sold the mutual funds in October, will I still get something in December? thanks
Many investors say they would be angered by higher capital gains, but would they be angry enough to put less money into the market? If so, what would investors buy, CD’s, bonds, real estate?
I inherited part of a farm and am contemplating creating an LLC (along with the other owners) for the land. When we sell the enitre property, what will be my basis for the capital gains… the value of the property when I inherited it, the value of the property when it was placed in the LLC, or the amount the LLC "purchased" the deed from me?
I am selling my resturant for a large amount and i hate paying so much in taxes for capital gains. Is there a way to keep from paying so much taxes? Maby like with a trust or something or maby but reinvesting the money or any ideas????
Thank you
Mike
Have you prepared your taxes yourself and seen your tax liability jump by more than 15% when entering your capital gains. My experience this year is that my net tax on cap gains is closer to 22%.
Basically, if i make a capital gain in the UK as a result of ownership of my company, what tax is due in the USA, if any? Obviously I know there are double taxation laws on income from wages (between the UK and USA) but from capital gains I don’t know the rules. Many thanks for any help!
I have a mutual fund and just noticed I received capital gains (which were automatically reinvested) on it at the end of the year. I thought realized capital gains were the result of selling, which I did not do. Can someone explain to me how this works? I’m new to investing and am trying to figure it all out.
Do you end up having to pay a lot of taxes on capital gains? Or is it just whatever capital gains that you made for that year in total to be taxed?
I read a couple articles that say do not day trade because of taxes. I dunno about this because I beleive you are taxed at a percentage. Only thing im worried about is probably the commissions you pay per trade might get expensive.
Can I get an answer that speaks in plain English?
I am nowhere near retirement age, but I noticed the assets in my 401K are mostly pre-tax, but there is about K that is post tax. Since I already paid tax on this, I should be able to take a distribution in this amount and not trigger any penalties or extra taxes, right? I would think any interest or capital gains on my post tax contributions would remain in the account and not be available until I take taxable distributions.
Where do they come from? I thought that since the fund manager is buying and selling stocks within the fund that you must pay for the capital gains on these transactions. Is that correct? Also if you have a good reference explaining this, I’d really appreciate it.
do I still pay capital gains? I would have the job right before or after closing and the federal service job would be through navy as civilian not as a military member- though I would be in the air national guard so military part time.
Since the seller is really only getting 200k for the sale of their home, (since the extra 5k is being returned to the buyer to cover closing costs), can the seller report the sales price as 200k on their Capital Gains worksheet? What are the IRS guidelines regarding Seller Assistance and Capital Gains?
If the fund has a load of 5% …. I will pay that load when I buy shares. But do I pay the load on reinvested dividend and capital gains purchases?
