I’m 17 at the moment but will be joining the Guard next summer. I want to make sure I have a living will set up in the event that I don’t make it home.
I meant a legal will. Something that says where everything goes and to whom.
As for my ‘stuff’ I just want make sure things like my guns and guitars go back to my dad, whatever money is in my bank account goes to my mom, then small things like my brother getting whatever electronics he wants (computer, XBox, ect.)

My dad was evicted from an assisted living facility because he supposedly "groped" another Alzheimer’s patient. They made us pick him up on a Holiday weekend and will not let him return.
Is this legal? I thought in Georgia a resident has to have a thirty day notice.

My dad is 65 and retired. He is not active due to knee/health problems, he doesn’t like to own movies, he’s not a reader, and any hobby he has ever had has gone unfinished because he has a short attention span. Anything he wants, he buys for himself – usually the same day he decides he wants it. What in the world should I get him for Christmas??

My dad is 56, and he isnt eligible to retire until he’s 63. The thing is, I’m worried that he wont make it to old age, or even retirement. He has medical problems with his heart, and lungs. He works a physically demanding job at our city’s electric plant and is around burning coal all day, plus he smokes. Personally, I’d rather spend a portion of my life working to pay off his debt than see him go without any dignity, living paycheck to paycheck like a slave, and it makes me sick. If he were to retire early, would he get ANY money from retirement? Also, would he be able to keep his medical insurance since his job is a public sector/union/city job? What are his options for early retirement? Could he be eligible for any benefits if he had a medical reason/doctor’s advice, etc..?

P.S. He makes approximately ,000/year and has been working for the city for about……15 years, I think. If that helps any, (I admittedly don’t know very much about this topic). Thanks in advance.
Pat – You don’t know him, so it’s none of your business whether or not he’s making or is capable of making his own decisions. and by the way, slaves get food and shelter no salary. Much like my dad who pays for food and shelter, and can’t afford much else. Hence, LIKE a slave. So again, I didn’t ask for your opinion on my family’s lives, I asked about retirement. Thanks.

I’m in school and have a 2nd floor, 1 rm. apt. When my mom passed away, my brother and his wife took my dad to care for him. My brother is out of town for business often and I suspect my sister-in-law is less than caring for my dad. He was always heathy – just aging and in need of help for day to day fuctions and personal care. This Sunday, I visited him, unannounced. My sis-in-law was not happy about it either. She interupted our conversations and seemed worried dad may say something to me she didn’t want discussed. He seemed less than happy with her. He mentioned not getting his medicine as scheduled…missing doctors appointments and being HUNGRY! He’s lost weight. His room was in an awful state; his hair not brushed and his clothes stunk. I’m worried she may hurt or be hurting him already! I noticed what looked like finger bruises on his arms. WHO DO I CONTACT? WHAT AGENCIES? PLEASE HURRY! I called my brother when I left- sez I’m imagining this! I don’t think he knows!

My dad was in the hospital for almost a month before he died from a car accident. After that my step mom retained all of his assets including vehicles. Could she do this without power of attorney and without notifying me and my siblings?

My father is 61 years old and recently quit his job as maintenance director at a retirement home. He hasn’t been working now for the past month, but today he recieved a troubling postcard stating that he was under investigation for stealing 5 thousand dollars cash from an elderly woman’s apartment. She claims that he went into her room while she was at the hospital and took the money. The problem with her claim is that he and everyone else in the facility have access to the patient rooms, but she is just accusing him. My father is not a thief and has never stolen anything from his past jobs (he has worked at multiple retirement homes without any problems)

He called and left the detective conducting the investigation a message to contact him, but I am worried they are going to arrest him on this false accusation.

They think it looks guilty of him because apparently he quit a week after the money came up missing. But he quit because his new boss was working him to the bone, and refused to give him any help…

Should we be worried that my father is going to jail for this? Should we get a lawyer?

I am really scared and I don’t want my dad to be arrested for something he didn’t do. He has a clean record, never been arrested for anything in his life….

My dad’s post 9/11 GI Bill got transferred to me last year, and it pays for my school, but anytime my father and I have a disagreement about anything, he threatens to cancel my veterans benefits. He can do that, can’t he? I’m leaning towards yes since the funds were originally for him, but I just needed some clarification.

My Dad purchased whole life insurance through AXA Equitable which is all paid for. What happens if the life insurance company goes bankrupt or their assets are under water like so many other financial institutions these days? Will the benefits still be payable?

I also think it’s strange that he had to pay 0 more to this insurance company as an "adjustment"(?) recently even though the policy was fully paid for a long time ago. Is this normal?
