I am trying to find out if I need a financial planner. I’m 32 years old, both my wife and i have good jobs, we own our home, have no credit card debt, no car payments and a decent savings.
I have done ok for myself without a financial planner, however accept for the 4.75 interest on my savings, my money is not doing anything.
I am scared at the idea of a financial planner. I am not sure I will be comfortable with some one telling me what I should do with money.
The flip side is that just like any one, I would love to have more money for the future.
Can anyone offer any advice that might change my opinion about hiring a financial planner?

I am trying to figure out if it’s better working for the government (finances wise) 20 years with good pension (well it’ s good compared tomost companies…few companies give you pension)
I know it can be better financially in some cases but if your

80k and
*scratch out and*
it may be better financially
working in the private sector
of course there are jobs in the gov’t that pay that but few
well i hear u start receiving full pension at 55 but you can retire with full pension if u work for 20 years
so 20k a year 55 and up that’s a lot

Do I need to pay any headcount cost if the recruit opts for no fixed salary but he earns just by his own sales commission? If there is no cost involved, does it mean that i can just recruit as many people as possible and earn from their sales, since I (as the boss) do not have to pay them anything (unlike other jobs)?

Having not put a consistent amount into social security throughout my life ( primarily tons of unreported music jobs ) my benefit will be quite low if I make a claim now ,at 62.. I’m not asking whether it will be more if I wait to 66/70. I know all about this. My Q is do any of you regret having done this now, seeing how it’s permanent ? Don’t forget, if you/we had waited to 65/66 we will have LOST the proceeds ($ from 62-65) which you can thus subtract from your later claim at ,say 65, having NOT received it. And so later claim is essentially less than it really is. Same situation if you/we hold off to 70. I.E. We lose all the $ from 62 to 70, again diminishing grand total at (sorry)death than it appears. Do I make sense ? I think most people are not aware of this aspect..10-4 ? P.S. I heard you CAN ,if you pay back all you HAVE received, plus interest, re-start claim at the later ages ( 65/66/70).

What type of degree is required to become an Activities Director or Events Planner in a retirement home setting? I am getting my BS in Business with a Certificate in Gerontology (study of aging). Do you think that degree will work for that type of job? What other jobs in this field would be available to me with that degree?

I have two variable annuity funds from previous jobs. One is from TIAA-Cref, and is worth ,000. The other is from Vanguard, and is worth ,500.
I’m 33 years old, and I’m currently contributing to a Vanguard Roth IRA.
Would it be possible to move the annuity funds into the IRA? If so, is this advisable, and what are the tax implications?
If not, is there something else I can do with the annuities besides hold onto them? The companies charge low service fees, but I know now that annuities are not the best investment for a person my age.
The annuities are in 403(b) accounts.

I would like to know if it is worth it to refinance a mortgage that has only about 12 years left, just to take advantage of a lower rate, so as to pay less monthly mortgage. I am between jobs and finding it difficult to pay. Also does refinancing put cash back in your hands? Please help!

I’m a recent college grad, who is lucky enough to be loan free. I have two jobs, with meager pay.. combined i make roughly 00 per month. Can anyone recommend decent short term and/or long term investment strategies for me to utilize? I want to save money progressively, but I don’t know where to begin. Also, I have a bad habit of squandering money easily. So I’m just seeing what I can to start a foundation to start saving big. Thank you for any input!

My husband and I are approaching our 30′s, self-employed with no retirement plan. We quit our jobs 1 and 2 years ago when the business we started proved successful.
We total about -60k/yr before taxes. We live in NJ and live paycheck to paycheck for now and have a year’s income in credit card debt that’s from the year we started the business and made little money (interest rates 8-12%).
I have a few thousand sitting in a pension account from my old teaching job, and he has some sitting in a 401k, they’re both waiting to be moved.
I’m a smart business woman, but I’m terribly uneducated on retirement (riding those 20′s). I’ve been more focused on income growth and credit paydown, but as 30 approaches I’m reminded that it’s important to start retirement plans early.
Can someone offer unbiased advice to get me started?

…. since the economy is only going to get worse?
Think about it. More and more people losing their jobs and homes. So many people overextended on credit and no one has any money to save and invest for retirement. Not to mention the fact that retirement funds are in decline because of the stock market. I lost several thousand on my IRA.
What do you think?
