My employers and myself have paid for social security and medicare benefits, why then "entitlement"? The government owes contributors these benefits. Compared to all the money the citizens pay in for congress’ and the senate’s retirement (which we did not get to vote on), I should receive my social security just as the political employees of this country receive theirs.

Would they have pensions, Social Security, and Medicare?

Would they be able to survive being retired without a job and no source of income?

Or would the for-profit private companies take care of seniors, despite having no profit motive to do so?

Why doesn't Medicare cover long term care?

I’m writing a research paper about long term health care. Many people aren’t covered for long term care, regardless if they have Medicare. Should Medicare be revised to cover long term care?

the government saying ‘pay us what we ask for and we will give you the coverage we deem appropriate?" Are there specific contract rights with respect to Social Security and Medicare? Are the rights assets of the individual, which can be borrowed against or left to loved ones?

Government regulations control private insurance and retirement plans. Who oversees the government plans?

COBRA Coverage and Early Retirement?

Could some one point me in the direction of legislation or other information that answers this question:

If an employee retires at 62, is he/she eligible for 18 or 36 months of COBRA coverage?

I’m not sure how that works with Medicare kicking in at 65. Thank you for any thoughts. 10 points to best answer.
Thanks James. I read that info from the DOL website too. I’m still not quite sure what this statment means – "Certain qualifying events, or a second qualifying event during the initial period of coverage, may permit a beneficiary to receive a maximum of 36 months of coverage."

What would be considered a second qualifying event, and would it be applicable in my example?

Recently I made some money as a freelance real estate person. 1.) How should I pay into my social security account, and 2.) Since I live abroad, can I avoid making payments to medicare for something I will never use.?

A couple more sensible Supreme Court justices once we get rid of Obama could uphold laws which make it next to impossible for poor Seniors to vote. Maybe make them have their original Social Security Card or Birth Certificate, not copies.

Republicans are very good at doing this sort of thing already so why not push the Old Farts out of the way and do away with Medicare and Social Security?

If you were trying to get the public’s attention about the government making cuts to medicaid, Medicare and Social Security how would you do it?

There are many ways for the government to get the money it needs. Many large corporations do not pay their fair share of taxes. Also the money we pay in our taxes goes back to these large corporations in subsidies. We end up paying for BP and Exxon’s oil spills. We taxpayers pay for the clean-up of Superfund sites, not the polluters.

If we could get these large corporations to pay their fair share of taxes, and stop giving them our tax money, we would be able to balance our budget without having to cut important health services for the injured, the people with disabities, the working class, and the elderly.

The only thing I’ve been able to come up with is to have people sign this petition:

If you have other suggestions, please let me know!

Aren’t the major sources of the debt unpaid wars, an expensive prescription program, tax cuts and stimulus?

So if all of the above continue and aren’t addressed, how will cutting Medicare/Medicaid solve our problems?

Won’t gutting these social programs at best *temporarily* balance the budget?

Because the contributing factors to the budget like unpaid wars, tax cuts and stimulus will surely continue?

Seems all Republicans can think of today is to chop Medicare to nothing. Or is that just a scare tactic to get what they want?

Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security? Will Seniors stand up and fight for what they have earned or sit back and watch while Billions are sent to countries that Hate the USA?

the cost of Medicare through modernization of the system such as lowering the cost of medicines?

They want Seniors to have lower benefits and higher costs, but no savings from the medical and drug industry.

Why is that?

I have more than 30 years in my job and will be able to retire at age 56 with a pension in excess of ,000 per year. In addition to paying federal income tax, do I still need to pay social security and medicare taxes?
