My employers and myself have paid for social security and medicare benefits, why then "entitlement"? The government owes contributors these benefits. Compared to all the money the citizens pay in for congress’ and the senate’s retirement (which we did not get to vote on), I should receive my social security just as the political employees of this country receive theirs.

Retirement planning for American expats?

When Americans live in other countries (and work for foreign companies), what do they do for retirement planning?
The U.S. has tax treaties with many countries that avoid double taxation on incomes up to (about) ,000, so assume it is one of those tax treaty countries.

I am still waiting on my 1099-R but I can access the amounts that were deducted from my check on my retirement website.
Do I use the amount I actually received or the total amount before they took anything out? Then where do I put the money they took? Is that a witholding amount?

I am on the Marine Temporary Disabled Retirement List. During "DTAP" I vaguely recall a warning not to reveal (not disability, but) receipt of pension to future employers as they may discriminate salary-wise. Theory being that employers often pay "retirees" less because its assumed our financial need is primarily met by the other income. (1st question: is this founded and how will I find out since its uncouth/prohibited to discuss salary with co-workers?) Additionally, I just received orders to report to my 1st periodic exam. I do not want to have to use my vaction/sick/personal days (my employer groups them) for -military orders-. (2nd part of the question; can they count the day or two taken for this against my earned time off?) Finally, my orders mention that failure to report could result in termination of pension & benefits. (Given answers to 1 & 2; 3rd part: do I risk providing this info since it will probably be necessary to avoid expending earned time off?) Thank you!

My 58 year old brother has no mortgage and owns his own house. He wants to buy a nicer house that just came on the market that in another market he could not afford with his savings retirement so he will not have a mortgage on the new house.
He wants to sell the house he lives in now at a later date after the prices increase and he can make money on the old house.
He knows about two house insurances and taxes on both.
I wonder how lucrative this is to anyone to do.
The price will be prohibitive when the market increases that is why he wants to buy the new house now.

Is this perfect for New England? and this year for NFL?

I think it would be perfect if D. CULPEPPER came out of retirement and played for the Pats for a year, He’s got to be better than High School QB and already has chemistry w/Moss/////Favre seemed to be able to make the change easy enough after retirement and going to a new team.. Seems obvious but no ones talking about it.

Gen X-er with no kids looking to boost my investments for a more secure retirement. Been burned before by dishonest quacks and don’t want to deal with salespeople whose commissions are more important than my future.

How much would you have to invest at the end of each MONTH over a period of 30 years to achieve a retirement of 2 million dollars? Assume that you can earn an annual rate of return of 10% on your investment.

Use the following formula in your calculation:

FUTURE VALUE OF ORDINARY ANNUITY = PAYMENT (COMPOUND INTEREST FACTOR)

What do I invest in for my families future?

My grandpa left me his home when he passed last summer. The house is probably valued at around ,000. My husband and I have no retirement and we would like to set aside some for our three children to use one day towards their own home. What would be the best route to go to invest this money?

I have both but don’t really see the point of an IRA. I don’t receive a higher interest rate, both accounts don’t have any fees, and I am limited to what I can put into my Roth IRA but not my savings. What’s the point of having one and not just using a standard savings account to save for retirement?

I am retiring. One option I have is to leave him as a beneficiary, and my retirement will pay him 50% of what it now pays me, for the rest of his life. But I dont want to screw up his medicaid and other programs as a disabled person. (he is autistic and he is twelve years old now.)

This house is currently paid off and the friend is retired, wishing to supplement his retirement. What options do we have?

I’m about to graduate, but I still don’t understand how retirement works.

My dad had a salaried job.He planned to live off the retirement that the company would give him.But when he was 51 he was laid off.The only job he could find is a pay-by-the-hour job.It doesn’t pay retirement.Who’s going to hire a 54-year-old if they have to pay for retirement in just a couple years? How’s it possible for him to find a job? Will he have to work until he dies so he can pay food and bills?Am I the only one who can provide money for him to live when he’s too old to work?My mom just got a /hr job with paid vacation as a receptionist at a doctors office. Will she get retirement? How can a doctors office afford to support each retired employee for the rest of their lives? What keeps any company from laying off all their old workers so they don’t have to pay for retirement?

Now I have to figure out what kind of a job to get. I don’t understand how I’m supposed to build a secure future for myself.
